Greek Terracotta from the West Coast to the East

Today Brent is hard at work at this particular location at Fifth Avenue and  East 45th St in Manhattan.  This new Tommy Bahama store will be open on November 17th and includes a restaurant and a bar!  Brent met the shipment of 28 of our Greek terracotta pots (custom finished, I might add) in New York City and unpacked and helped place them.  A sore back notwithstanding, Brent and the rest of us are proud and excited to have such a presence at such a great location in New York.  At Eye of the Day we find more and more of our clients throughout the country are coming to us through our website and we are shipping far beyond our California locations.

Scott Semple: Potman

Eye of the Day is excited to have formed a relationship with Scott Semple, Master Potter & artist.  Eye of the Day’s reputation has been formed by our custom services, providing customers with unique colors, finishes and custom fountains.  Scott Semple will be expanding our services by making  custom clay pottery  ranging from African violet planters to large residential installations in an array of custom glazes and finishes.  Scott is well known for his oversized, hand-thrown pots and we have two of these at our Carpinteria showroom.  He will be working in conjunction with Eye of the Day to produce signature pottery for some of our highly regarded designers, the first of whom is Christine London.  Christine has designed a line of pottery bearing her signature that reflects her taste as well as the artisanal skill displayed by Scott.  We are happily looking forward to a long-term partnership with this talented local artist.

Anduze Pottery Love

Let us continue with our Anduze-love. These unique pots made in the south of France are seen lining the grand boulevards of Nice and Montpelier and the Chateau de Versailles is outfitted with forty custom crafted Anduze vases. Eye of the Day in Carpinteria, California is a more convenient location to admire the lovely French pottery in all of its available colors.

In our new shipment of Anduze pottery we have both old and new colors.  Two of our favorites are Flamme (old) and Vieil Antic (new).anduze pottery  After the vases have been molded and dried, copper oxide and manganese glazes are applied, resulting in the rich green, chestnut and gold streaks we know as Flamme.  The inimitable color combination symbolizes the sun,  the lush foliage and the earth.

One of the newest colors is Vieil Antic, a unique, authentic patina.  When wet, the background pink of the natural terra cotta will show through and as the pot dries, it will whiten.  The planters will literally come alive in the garden depending on the weather conditions.

We can describe ALL of the Anduze pottery colors, but seeing them  is worth a thousand words.  We hope you will be able to visit Eye of the Day and see what we’re talking about.  All the time.

Here are the colors…..French Anduze Pottery

New French Anduze

French Anduze PotteryEye of the Day has received a twenty foot container of French Anduze pottery from the South of France. There are new shapes and a great variety of colors and sizes available close to home (i.e. there is no reason to travel to Provence to outfit the garden with authentic French garden pottery).  The colors of the Provencal countryside are at our fingertips and ready to transform any garden area:French Anduze the soft grey of an early winter sky, the blue of the summer evening, the gold, brown and green of the hillsides, and the pale blue of a spring morning are some of the evocative hues.
The French terracotta pottery is unique and compliments any architectural or garden style.  Visit our Santa Barbara showroom to see the range of French Anduze planters now available.

Mediterranean – Eye of the Day Style

Eye of the Day is situated in a classic Mediterranean climate zone with dry, temperate summers and moderate rain in the winter months.  Santa Barbara architecture and gardens reflect this beautiful climate with terracotta tile roofs and sun- drenched landscapes featuring typical Mediterranean plants including olive trees, citrus and lavender. Yes, we ARE lucky.
Meandering through the aisles of the Eye of the Day showroom feels like a trip through Italy, Greece, Provence and Spain.  We love the idea of our customers taking home a bit of the Mediterranean when they choose a terracotta pot from Terrecotte San Rocco, an Anduze pot from Provence  or an antique Greek Oil Jar.  The Mediterranean lifestyle can be created anywhere and the style encompasses classic as well as modern designs as in our I. Torrini line of Rocco terracotta.
Go on, make your own Mediterranean.

It’s Terracotta Time Again

Eye of the Day now has available in stock more Italian Terrecotte San Rocco than ever.  One of the great things about this brilliant manufacturer is that they are constantly adding new sizes, styles and shapes to their already sizeable collection of planters/pots/containers.
The terracotta pots in the Atlas Line from Terrecotte San Rocco are machine made instead of hand-made. The clay is the same excellent Galestro clay (sometimes referred to as Impruneta) as the main line, I. Torrini and Terrecolorate produced by Terrecotte San Rocco.  Most admirers would not be able to discern the difference, but to most admirers’ advantage, the Atlas Line of pottery is more affordable than their relatives in similar sizes.  The designs are unique to this line and have both a contemporary and classic look.  Included are squares, wall pots, corner pots, rectangular and round pots.
You have been waiting long enough to add beautiful Italian terra cotta to your garden.  Your time is now.
