Take a Look Inside Our Brand Book

Eye of the Day Garden Design Center is proud to announce the launch of our first-ever Brand Book. When you visit our store you meet the unforgettable people and see the authentic pottery that we’ve built our business on, and now you can have that Eye of the Day experience by viewing digital publication on any device.

Why a Brand Book? As our clientele becomes more nationwide, we have felt people were missing out on the core idea that we are a local, family business with a visually spectacular array of products. Some of our long-standing customers and friends wanted the opportunity to see our ever expanding selection as well.

mission statement

“Coming to Eye of the Day is about finding design inspiration,” says Brent Freitas Owner and CEO. That inspiration is conveyed via the Brand Book by breathtaking photos of products in and out of the landscape settings, coupled with informative text that has the depth and richness you’d expect from Eye of the Day. “If you are drawn to a container but unsure as to how you could use it in your garden, there is probably an answer for you in the Brand Book.”

The Brand Book is as helpful to the novice as it is to garden professionals, some of whose profiles and projects grace the digital pages. Rick Button and Carol ‘Puck’ Erickson are just a couple of the featured designers that share their thoughts on our containers and fountains are incorporated into their projects.

Rick Button: Puzzle Master

fountain conversion

Rick Button is a thoughtful man; a thoughtful landscape architect. It’s almost possible to see the wheels turning inside that head. He carefully considers color, elevations, planting palette and planters for each project. The Bennett residence presented a number of challenges for Rick’s grand intelligence.

  • The two story residence features interior shifts in elevation and because of the shifts,  each porch and terrace varies in elevation. To address this, Rick established a series of spaces at the same elevation to flow into one another.
  • The original grading and drainage was designed for all rainwater and irrigation runoff to travel under the house, through the basement. Now, one circulation system surrounds the entire structure and all water is sheet drained away from the structure.
  • The back of the property was too shallow and steep for needed construction. A retaining wall was built, expanding usable space 20’, three staircases were designed to connect the house to the lower garden featuring a new pool house designed by Ron Ettinger, fireplace, kitchenette, bar, two bathrooms, a 60; pool, a cook center/flower arranging area, a large terrace for sunning and dining as well as a  small lawn providing just enough space for croquet or badminton.
  • Wrought iron gates and fencing, decorative tile, terra cotta pots and one special Gladding McBean fountain conversion from Eye of the Day, along with a distinctively Mediterranean featuring agaves, bougainvillea, roses, geraniums and date palms all contribute to the overall desired look.

Rick has spent almost thirty years as a landscape architect working in residential garden design from his office in Pasadena. The photos of the Bennett residence illustrate his thoughtful design acumen and constructive use of space even more completely that any description can offer.

“Integrity of space, integrity of architecture, integrity of materials”.  ~Rick Button

Spring Shipment: Campania International

Eye of the Day Garden Design Center

Eye of the Day Garden Design CenterWhen a multi-pallet shipment arrives at Eye of the Day, it is “all hands on deck” to painstakingly inspect, unload, unpack and check in every item. The shipments are made up of custom orders and beautiful catalog items to stock our large showroom, and we spend a full day or more moving everything from the truck to places in the showroom where our clients can easily access them.

It is our mission here at Eye of the Day Garden Design Center to provide you with only the best quality, authentic European- and American-made pottery, statuary and fountains. That is why we always look forward to a shipment from our old friends at Campania International located in Pennsburg, PA. Campania was founded in 1983 and quickly became one of the nation’s premier designers, manufacturers and distributors of fine garden accents. They are continually setting trends and industry standards, which is why they are one of our handpicked producers of American-made concrete and stone décor. They offer a wide range of products in a variety of materials and styles from classic to contemporary.

We select items that will work for small spaces and estates alike. Our customers have a wide range of needs and styles and Campania has a great sense of the classic but also an eye for linear contemporary design. Come to our showroom to see the latest arrivals!

Fountain Conversions – Possibilities are endless!

Fountain conversions give designers a rare opportunity to work with sound, color, motion and light all at the same time. Here are some examples of the many possibilities.

Vintage Hand Carved Stonework Become Decorative Garden Fountains

Eye of the Day has long been a great place to buy classic landscape and garden fountains.  But not everyone knows the extent we can go to match a customer with their future water feature.  In addition to our many classic fountains, we also create fountain conversions made from French Anduze pottery, Italian and Greek terracotta and even American concrete pots.

Some of the most beautiful and inspirational fountains are constructed in France from old limestone pieces adorned with antique bronze spouts – like the  magnificent Cathedral Fountain.  This fountain sends the imagination to great heights – where were those amazing pieces found that comprise this fountain?

Another fountain conversion made from old limestone is our Baignoire Fountain with Hand Pump.   Baignoire means bath in French.

In a small village in France, known for the antiques that are omnipresent on the narrow streets, there is a fantastic factory producing new hand carved limestone fountains.  Eye of the Day has been fortunate to feature many of these special fountains over the years.  These master stonecutters produce fountains, statuary, staircases and more with methods that have been used for centuries.  Graceful wall fountains with delicate, carved scrollwork, fanciful fish and flower motifs are available. There are also “centrale” fountains, made to compliment a courtyard or open area.

At Eye of the Day, our wish is to offer you a plentiful variety of fountains, traditional concrete fountains, custom fountains devised from beautiful pottery, French limestone fountains made from old pieces or new hand carved limestone.  Our only limit is your imagination.
