Here are the FACTS: The olive tree is hardy: drought-resistant, disease-resistant and fire-resistant. Its root system is able to regenerate the tree even if the above-ground structure is destroyed. It prefers limestone slopes and crags as well as a coastal climate, though any light soil, even clay. If well drained, will work, but rich soil can invite disease. Hot weather makes every olive tree happy, and temperatures below 14 degrees could injure even a mature tree. Drought doesn’t seem to be a problem, thanks to extensive root systems, and the majestic Olive tree can live for several hundred years.
Here is the ROMANCE: No tree is better suited to a Mediterranean or Southwestern landscape design than the olive. With it’s shimmering, silvery green leaves and rustic, gnarled trunk and branches, a mature olive tree can be placed center stage to become a living architectural focal point in the garden. As a Vecchio Tree Station, Eye of the Day can provide fully mature, majestic olive trees ready to be delivered and placed within a week of ordering. Photographs of the vast selection of trees available can be emailed to our customers and soon Eye of the Day will have several Vecchio Trees on site.
