Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need to seal my terracotta pot?
Sealing your terracotta will promote a longer life by preventing expansion and contraction by absorption and dehydration.

What is the white substance that has appeared on the surface of my pot/fountain and how can I eliminate it?
The white substance is caused by minerals leaching from the water through the concrete or terracotta. A soft cloth or brush can be used to wipe the deposits from your items.

What is the best way to keep my fountain clean?
Change the water often, and use a soft brush or cloth. There are products available to add to the water to prevent algae from forming and to keep you fountain clean. Distilled white vinegar is an alternative solution.

What chemicals should NOT be used in my fountain?
Never use chlorine or bleach as an algaecide or cleaner. They will cause damage to your pump and fountain surfaces.

Do concrete items need to be sealed?
Concrete is porous and it absorbs and releases moisture. As this occurs, the minerals and impurities in your water may cause deterioration. Applying a sealer may help to prevent this.

Is it okay to put fish/water plants in my fountain?
We do not recommend putting fish or plants in your fountain as any organic material will be drawn into the pump and will likely cause the pump to stop functioning.
